The History of Blog Trends & the Lovely Ladies Behind the Hashtag

Founder:Kaitlyn, Social Media Manager: Katie, Co-Founder: Lindsay (Manhattan, NYC)

Blog Trends began about 2 weeks after the most amazing day of my life, my wedding day. As a social media manager I have spent more time than I’d like to admit on Twitter, and more particularly participating in Twitter chats. All of the chats I had found were focused on running a business, using social media, and PR. I had found a chat or two about blogging but nothing focused specifically on fashion, beauty, and lifestyle bloggers.

Knowing how much I had learned and relationships I had built in these other Twitter chats I decided I would work on creating a small weekly chat focused on the topics I wanted to learn about as a blogger. After brainstorming for a while the hashtag #BlogTrends was born and I set my sights on finding the perfect time each week to chat. I reached out to one of the biggest Twitter forces in fashion and someone I really enjoy talking to, @DKNY. Aliza was very helpful in offering me feedback about the best times to chat and I decided on 9pm est.

I began reaching out to some bloggers that I admire to help me get the word out about our first ever chat happening October 17, 2011. @BlackBlondeOne, @DivasandDorks, and @Fashionalities were among some of the first to participate and get the conversation started. Since that Monday in October #BlogTrends has happened every Monday night.

One blogger in particular was very interested in helping me keep this chat going and make it great. Lindsay (@Blackblondeone) of Black & Blonde reached out to me and began helping me every week with developing questions, writing articles for our website, and creating the transcripts of the chats while I hosted each week. We have since become very close and Lindsay continues to be a vital part of Blog Trends.

We were full of giggles that day!

Each and every week our chat has grown and served as an incredibly helpful resource and networking tool for bloggers of all skills and locations. As we have grown it has been increasingly more important for the @Blog_Trends Twitter account to remain active all day so we began to search for someone to join our team and help keep the Twitter experience going all week long. Kaitie of Today I Want… joined us February 20th, 2012 and has been a big help keeping the conversations going all week long on Twitter and on our website.

On April 2nd, 2012 the Blog Trends social network was born. In addition to being a social media professional I also have web development experience and began working on a way for the growing network of bloggers to connect beyond our weekly #BlogTrends Twitter chat. After a couple of weeks of building the new site after work it was finally ready for launch. Within the first 2 weeks we reached over 200 members that had formed over 20 groups.

A couple of weeks after the new social network launched I got a chance to reunite with Lindsay (we had done brunch in December in Manhattan) and this time I got to meet Katie too. It was a fantastic few days of meetups, great food, and lots of Blog Trends chat. The entire Blog Trends community is a result of so many bloggers willing to network and share which inspires us to keep working hard to make sure everything runs smoothly.

We all truly appreciate the support you have shown to us whether you have been with us 6 months or 6 days. Our network continues to grow because of the hard work of the Blog Trends team and the amazing bloggers that are so willing to teach and share with each other. I hope in another 6 months I will be writing about all of the amazing things we have planned for the Blog Trends members. We hope you all appreciate the time and effort we put into our network and chat each week and we hope you will continue to help us grow and accomplish amazing things in the future!

I’ve been following Blog Trends for a number of months now and whilst I haven’t yet contributed to a chat (based in the UK) I always enjoy reading the tweets the next morning. I am also finding the archive tweets very useful.

It is lovely to see who is behind such a wonderful blogger resource. Keep up the excellent work!

  1. […] Well there is no covering up the fact that this blog hasn’t seen action in over a month and the time has come for a revival. I can assure you in my absence from Eidetic Fashion there has been no lack of blogging on my part. I have instead shifted my attention for the past few months to a project I started in late October called Blog Trends. If you want to learn more about the project check out a post I wrote about the History of Blog Trends & the Ladies Behind the Hashtag. […]
