How Often Should I Post?

Everyone has a different posting schedule.  For some, it’s daily and for others, it’s weekly.  How often should you post though?  It’s a tough question and really differs for everyone.  Read below to find out the best frequency for you.

What are your expectations?  Are you doing this as a hobby or do you have aspirations to become professional?  This will give you a good guideline of how much time you are willing to put into it.  If you are serious about blogging, you will most likely have to carve time off of other activities in order to post as much as you would like.

How much time do you have? Although you may want to blog professionally, maybe you have a demanding job or family obligations.  Take an inventory of how much time you have available. To do this, write down the free time you have for one week. Take a look at what you wrote down at the end of that week and that should give you a good idea of how much time you can invest.

What type of content do you post? Your content is also a strong indicator of how often you should post.  Are you writing long, wordy posts?  Are you more of a photo person?  Take this into consideration.  Your readers probably can’t read heavy text-driven posts on a daily basis.  Conversely, think about if your photos will keep your readers entertained for a week.  It’s about creating a balance between your content and posting schedule.

Whether you post multiple times per day or once a week, the key is consistency.  Readers want to know what to expect.  While it’s great to be surprised, it’s even worse to be let down. If a blogger posts every day at noon and then skips a few days without telling readers, it’s disappointing.  A big factor in your aid can be an editorial calendar.  We spoke about it in this article, but it can be a great factor in scheduling posts and your time in order to create those posts.

How often do you post and what factors play into that?

Great points to consider. For me, consistency is the biggest challenge, as I will go through phases where I’ve posted 3 times a week, and then back off to only once a month! But I can see from reading other blogs that it’s nice to have a consistent pattern. Thanks~

I try to post daily Have a photo gallery tues and thurs which just hosts 1 photo and a little paragraph. I find weekend have the least traffic so sometimes I take a break on Saturdays. I try to do a Best Blog Posts of the Week on Sunday but sometimes it is just too hard to do so, the readers like it however, so I need to get back to that one. My site is manly a photo travel blog so I spend lots of time editing photos. I think you have to post often, even just once a week to keep readers. Once a month is not really enough, imo.

I just started my little baby blog a little over a month ago and have posted on average 3-5x/week. I have settled into a pattern now that will seem to work for me at 4x/week. Great point about photos vs. longer wordier posts…nice to see the importance of balance with one’s blog and personal life. Thanks! Cheryl

I try to post around 3 times a week on average, generally I’ll post on a Monday, Wednesday and a Friday however every now and then I’ll do 4 posts and post on opposite days (Sunday, Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday if I’ve got more content I’d like to post!)
