Cakes & Louie started out of a desire to just write –
whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, without feeling like I had to stick to one topic. The blog is named after the two most special guys in my life – Dan, my better-half and hubby who I call Cakes, and our adorable fluffy puppy Louie, who is an absolute bundle of fun.
I’m a designer, a writer and a crafter with a love for DIY projects, the awesome and ever-growing blogosphere, and anything having to do with weddings. I am constantly tweaking things big and little around our fixer-upper home and get a kick out of figuring out the most budget-friendly way to dress, create, decorate and plan.
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
The community! It’s contagious. I love how bloggers encourage each other when someone is down, and lift each other up when it’s needed most. It’s incredible to me that friendships are forged simply by reading each other’s writing, and it’s such a great way to find others who share passions, interests and dreams.
What inspires you and what you post about on your blog?
I am inspired by the little things – the details of life. A pattern on a throw pillow, a quote, a vignette in someone’s home, a photo on Pinterest
, a font in a magazine – you name it, I’m drawn to it. I write about a lot of “little things” on Cakes & Louie – I’ll post my latest wish list or awesome clearance rack find, but I try to do it in a way that’s relatable and personal – like chatting with a friend catching up after a long weekend. I’ve had a few readers comment and tell me that they feel like when they read my blog they’re getting to know a real person. From day one, I’ve set out to do just that, and doing my best to stay true to myself has played a huge factor in what I post day to day!
What is one tool or trick that has helped you as a blogger?
Really, just reading other blogs has been a huge help in learning about the “blogosphere” and getting to know others with similar styles as mine. But more technically, having a design background and knowing Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator has really helped me in fine tuning how I want my blog to look over time.
How has the Blog Trends community helped you?
The tips & tricks offered on the website are great reads, and I’m looking forward to getting more involved with the tweet chats to get to know more bloggers!
